TÜV SÜD PARTICIPATED THE 1ST CHINA-EU GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATIONS COOPERATIVE CONFERENCE

To promote the Agreement between the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the European Union on Cooperation on, and Protection of, Geographical Indications, the 1st China-EU Geographical Indications Cooperative Conference was held in Chengdu, China on September 17th, where both sides discussed how to interpret relevant policies, introduce related technologies and standards, and facilitate international trade and investment in products of geographical indications (GI). The conference was organized by the Trade Development & Cooperation Center of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT). It was co-sponsored by the China Chamber of International Commerce and the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China.

Since TÜV SÜD cooperated with the CCPIT in 2019, it has launched offline and online information sessions with  tens of thousands viewers. Recently, TÜV SÜD was invited to the 1st China-EU Geographical Indications Cooperative Conference. After Vice Chairman of the CCPIT Ke Liangdong’s  address, Jens-Olaf Schuler, Director of Technical Services Retail of TÜV SÜD Greater China, addressed the conference and delivered a speech titled “How to make Chinese geographic products comply with EU regulations for Protected Geographical Indications”. He also received interviews from CGTN and Chengdu Radio & Television on topics like geographical indications and China-EU agreements.

The Agreement between the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the European Union on Cooperation on, and Protection of, Geographical Indications is the first comprehensive and high-level agreement on geographical indications signed by China for foreign investors. It protects a large number of GI products and is a milestone for deepening China-EU cooperation.
