Cybersecurity: TÜV SÜD Division Mobility and SAE collaborate over training for the automotive industry

TÜV SÜD Division Mobility announces a new collaboration with SAE International over cybersecurity training for the automotive industry. This will be the second major partnership between the US automotive engineers’ association and TÜV SÜD Division Mobility since the two organizations joined forces to establish the International Alliance for Mobility Testing and Standardization (IAMTS) in April 2019.

Today’s vehicles increasingly rely on connectivity and automation to operate. Given this, cybersecurity has emerged as a core challenge for the automotive industry. In response, TÜV SÜD Division Mobility is partnering with SAE International to provide a training seminar entitled “Automotive Cybersecurity Foundation” in line with ISO / SAE 21434. Aimed at everyone working in the areas of automotive cybersecurity and automotive management, engineering and auditing, the seminar teaches the essential basic principles of combating cyber risks.

“The automotive industry needs to impose mandatory compliance with the new cybersecurity regulations and to understand and consider the associated requirements as early as the development phase. In-depth understanding of the regulations is critical, providing the foundations for these actions, and the training seminar is the first step towards embarking on this compliance process”, says Alexander Kraus, Senior Vice President, Division Mobility TÜV SÜD and Executive Chair of International Alliance for Mobility Testing and Standardization (IAMTS).

“The new standards and regulations are key to establishing security in the vehicle life cycle and the supply chain. It is vital for suppliers to grasp the basic principles behind the standards and be familiar with how to apply them in practice”, advises John Tintinalli, Director of Innovation & Business Development SAE International.

“Cybersecurity must play a critical role in the automotive life cycle if drivers are to place their trust in vehicles. Our partnership with SAE will enable us to provide our customers with high-calibre training that draws on the latest state of the art as well as on our company’s wealth of consulting and audit experience”, affirms Jörg Schemat, CEO TÜV SÜD Akademie.

Regulations and standards for automotive cybersecurity
The training will present the context and requirements of the laws, regulations and standards, focusing on the provisions of UNECE WP 29 and ISO / SAE 21434. It provides participants with the necessary basic knowledge to fulfil the forthcoming statutory obligations concerning automotive cybersecurity. This represents a major contribution towards enhancing vehicle and component security and ensuring the success of type approval applications for series-produced vehicles. The course trainers are specialist lecturers from TÜV SÜD. The two-day seminar can be booked as an online or in-person event and concludes with a certificate of attendance from TÜV SÜD Akademie. No specific qualifications are needed to take part. The course will be held in German and training material in English will be supplied.
