TÜV SÜD opens testing laboratory for grow lights in China

By opening a new testing laboratory for grow lights, TÜV SÜD is responding to a global trend. As the world's population expands, cultivation of vegetables, fruit and flowers under exactly controlled conditions is becoming increasingly important. This applies in particular to China, the world's most populous country. At its location in Shenzhen, near the border to Hong Kong, TÜV SÜD is now opening its Horticulture Lighting Laboratory, one of the first facilities of this type worldwide.

The new TÜV SÜD testing laboratory offers a comprehensive range of services at the interdisciplinary interface between food production and product safety, aimed both at manufacturers of grow lamps and luminaires and the users of these lighting systems. A variety of methods are applied to test the safety and performance of these electrical devices and ensure that they are demonstrably and reliably in compliance with all regulatory requirements in the USA, the European Union and other international markets. The TÜV SÜD experts working at the Horticulture Lighting Laboratory can also offer further customer-specific tests, addressing issues such as the life and safety of the examined products. In addition, systematic and comparative tests enable informative assessments to be made of the effectiveness of various lighting systems and solutions on the growth of selected plants.

Global expertise

This comprehensive offer is backed up by a wealth of experience and expertise from over 150 years in certification amassed by TÜV SÜD, one of the leading international providers of testing and certification services. The Horticulture Lighting Laboratory operates under TÜV SÜD's Product Service Division, which supplies customers worldwide with a broad range of product testing and certification services, including a landmark lighting laboratory operated in Garching near Munich by TÜV SÜD Product Service GmbH.
