USA: EPA updates multiple voluntary consensus standards in formaldehyde emission standards for composite wood products rule (TSCA Title VI)

February 2018- Relevant for: Hardlines, Toys & children's products

On 7 February 2018, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published a final rule to revise the formaldehyde standards for composite wood products regulations (40 CFR part 770) in a Federal Register1. This revision updates the incorporation by references for multiple voluntary consensus standards because they have been updated, superseded, or withdrawn by their respective organization (see details in Table 1 of this final rule), and provide a correction to allow panel manufacturers to correlate their approved quality control test method to the ASTM E1333-14 test chamber or the ASTM D6007-14, upon showing equivalence.

Effective date of this final rule is 7 February 2018.
