    Regulatory agency

    Public Authority for Industry (PAI)

    Regulations

    • The Kuwait Conformity Assurance Scheme (KUCAS) contains a set of procedures carried out by PAI to verify the conformity of all “Regulated Products” (domestic or imported) to Kuwait’s Technical Regulations and approved Standards.
    • Manufacturers with consignments of regulated products to be shipped to Kuwait are required to complete the conformity procedures prior to shipment through one of the Certification and Inspection Bodies (CIB) approved by PAI.
    • A Technical Evaluation Report (TER) and a Technical Inspection Report (TIR) issued by an approved CIB are required.
    • Compliance with KSS and IEC standards.

    Guidelines 

    • Manufacturers need to be licensed.
    • The TER is issued by an approved CIB on the basis of successful type testing or test report evaluation.
    • Inspection and testing (based on risk assessment and type of product) would be conducted prior to shipment by the relevant CIB for TIR.

    Product categories that require mandatory energy efficiency labelling include:

      • Group 1 - Electrical toys   
      • Group 2 - Household & commercial electrical and gas appliances
      • Group 3 - Automotive    
      • Group 4 - Chemical

  • Energy Efficiency

    Public Authority for Industry (PAI)

    Regulations

    According to KWS 1893:2018, air conditioner is mandatory to apply for the Energy Efficiency Labelling.

    Guidelines  

    • Product tested in the accredited laboratory.
    • Commercial registration certificate of Kuwaiti importer.

    Regulatory agency

    Communication and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA)

    Regulations

    • The CITRA in Kuwait issues type approval for terminal equipment.
    • Hardware Type Approval Certificate is granted for a period of three years.

    Guidelines

    • A local representative is required.
    • Approval is based on review of foreign standard test reports.
