Certification mark for ski boots

Scope:

The certification mark applies to alpine and touring ski boots.

Basis of certification:

The certification mark is based on the following standards:DIN ISO 9523 (Touring ski boots for adults – Interface with touring ski-bindings – Requirements and test methods) and DIN ISO 5355 (Alpine ski boots – Requirements and test methods). If both standards are included in the mark, the product meets the requirements for both alpine and touring ski boots. In this case, the ski boots have interchangeable plates under the soles that are suitable either for alpine downhill skiing (DIN ISO 5355) or ski touring (DIN ISO 9523)

Key words of the certification mark:

  • DIN ISO 9523
Testing is based on the DIN ISO 9523 standard (see Basis of certification), which defines aspects including the measurements and properties of the interface with the ski bindings and the requirements, testing and labelling of ski boots with rigid soles.
  • DIN ISO 5355
Testing is based on the DIN ISO 5355 standard (see Basis of certification), which defines the requirements and test procedures for alpine ski boots.
  • Safety tested
The voluntary TÜV SÜD certification mark with the statement “Safety tested” is issued for products and components, indicating that the product was tested and certified by the independent third-party organisation of TÜV SÜD Product Service for conformity with the essential technical safety requirements.
  • Production monitored
Periodic surveillance of the manufacture of a product constitutes the basic premise for certification which includes the award of a certification mark. Certification always requires product testing and regular factory inspections.

As a third-party expert organisation, TÜV SÜD verifies that the manufacturer is able to maintain consistent quality in line with the requirements throughout high-volume production and has established the necessary quality system, including incoming goods inspections, lists of materials and final product check.

In addition, calibration of the necessary measuring and monitoring equipment must be ensured. Surveillance and/or monitoring covers the testing of safety-critical components and other materials used. If unauthorised changes are made to the product, the certificate will be withdrawn and the TÜV SÜD certification mark may no longer be used.
