This voluntary TÜV SÜD certification mark is awarded for LED lamps (LED light bulbs) with integrated LED modules and lamps with replaceable LED modules, for general purposes or indoor lighting. It demonstrates that the product has been tested and certified by the third-party expert organization TÜV SÜD Product Service. The certification mark is only awarded to products that undergo product testing and inspection by TÜV SÜD Product Service and comply with the criteria quoted below.
Certification is based on the product-specific test standard developed by TÜV SÜD Product Service (PPP 18045), which covers various directives, regulations and standards, e.g. Regulation (EU) No. 1194/2012 (amended by Regulation (EU 2015/1428) with regard to ecodesign requirements for directional lamps, light emitting diode lamps and related equipment, photobiological safety of lamps and lamp systems (EN 62471), self-ballasted LED lamps for general lighting services by voltage > 50V (EN 62560), and RoHS II (Directive 2011/65/EU).
In the scope of the energy efficiency testing basic tests are carried out on the product. Products that carry this certification mark have achieved a total mains efficacy of 160 lm/W or higher according to Annex II of (EU) 2019/2015
Light-quality testing covers examination of parameters including color rendering, light color, and photobiological safety.
The test for low optical flicker examines the light stability of products to prevent unpleasant visual effects and premature tiring of the eyes.
Another focus in addition to product quality is product safety. Product safety is verified in safety tests carried out by TÜV SÜD. The statement “Safety tested” on the bottom of the octagon indicates that the product was tested and certified by the independent third-party organisation of TÜV SÜD Product Service for conformity with the essential technical safety requirements. The certification criteria vary depending on the products in question. Certification is based on product-specific standards and test programmes.
