Certification mark for apparels

For the statement “Toxic tested”, TÜV SÜD tested the product for hazardous substances and verified that any harmful substances present in the product complied with, or remained under, the relevant limits. The test is based on legal requirements, with TÜV SÜD defining even stricter criteria in some cases.

Periodic surveillance of the manufacturer of a product constitutes the basic premise for certification which includes the award of a certification mark (regardless if “Production monitored” is stated on the certification mark or not). Certification always requires product testing and regular factory inspections.

As a third-party expert organisation, TÜV SÜD verifies that the manufacturer is able to maintain consistent quality in line with the requirements throughout high-volume production and has established the necessary quality system, including incoming goods inspections, lists of materials and final product check. In addition, calibration of the necessary measuring and monitoring equipment must be ensured.

If “Production monitored” is stated on the certification mark, even stronger production surveillance is applicable. It indicates that 100% of the manufactured products have been randomly inspected by TÜV SÜD during a pre-shipment inspection, which is performed on-site, and the samples for the necessary testing have been neutrally drawn from the final production by TÜV SÜD, sealed and send to the TÜV SÜD lab for final production testing.

Surveillance and/or monitoring covers the testing of safety-critical components and other materials used. If unauthorised changes are made to the product, the certificate will be withdrawn and the TÜV SÜD certification mark may no longer be used.
