Internal Fire Testing of xEVs - Safety of Lithium-ion Battery Systems

A U.S. DoT/NHTSA-funded project

Under a joint U.S. DOT/NHTSA/SAE research programme on the safety of lithium-ion based rechargeable energy storage systems used in xEVs, TÜV SÜD conducted tests on multiple xEVs models to assess and evaluate the potential effects of internal battery fires on the vehicles and their intended occupants.

The test methodology developed by TÜV SÜD and the results of our testing provide important baseline data in the effort to improve the effectiveness of current safety regulations and standards, and can help to increase the overall safety of future EVs.
